First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Omaha.
Mayor's Office Associate
This interview process for the Mayor's Hotline Associate role was pretty structured. I talked to the manager of the group, the person who set up the interview, and the Mayor's chief of staff. They all asked questions one after another, and it was good because there were no awkward pauses. They were really professional, and the questions they asked seemed to fit with my past experience, even though I haven't worked for a city before, only in finance and restaurants. So, I felt like I could answer everything pretty fast.
- Can you describe the most difficult situation you encountered in a professional setting?
Library Project Manager
I applied online and they got back to me within a few days. Then I had a panel interview with an HR person and two supervisors for the role. The HR rep was really cold and unfriendly. She asked all five questions, but they didn't really fit the job, and each question had a five-minute time limit. If you went over, she'd cut you off mid-sentence, saying your time was up. The whole interview took 20 minutes.
- Tell me about a time you had to manage an employee who refused to follow your instructions.
Police Officer
The process starts with a written test, followed by an obstacle course. Then, there's a structured interview, and after that, a background investigation, medical, and psych evaluations. If you pass those, you'll have an interview with higher-ups before they make a hiring decision. Some things can get you disqualified right away. For more info, check the NLETC website.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career as a police officer?
Clerk Typist
They will explain the hiring and scoring process. Then they will ask 5 set questions that they mentioned will be the same for all candidates for this position. They will take notes as you answer. Finally, they will ask if you have any questions for them. I interviewed for two different departments, and the questions were different for each position.
- How do you handle a lot of work?
