First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Olathe.
Organizational Development
It was a phone interview, scheduled for Skype but due to tech issues, it ended up being a phone call. The interviewers were polite and friendly. The interview was formal but kind, and they were focused on gathering relevant information for the position.
- Could you share some information about yourself?
Transportation Manager
The interview process wasn't bad. They initially contacted me by phone, and it seemed like I did well. They then asked if I could come in for an Excel test, but I declined because I haven't had any formal training in Excel.
- What are some ideas for improving public transportation in the city?
Intern
The interview was pretty relaxed, and I felt overdressed even though they didn't mind. It was nicer than I expected.
- What are your learning goals for this internship?
Police Officer
So first, I had to pass this physical agility test, which was kinda like the first hurdle, you know? If you passed that, you then had to do a writing sample. After that, it was into the interview panel. Following the panel, I tackled this lengthy psychological written test, took like four hours, and then they sent it off for scoring. Then came the in-person psychological interview, which also went on for a few hours. After all that, I had to do a polygraph and a background check. Finally, I met with the chief of police who gave me a conditional offer, but it was still dependent on passing the physical exam.
- Were there any mentors who assisted you in preparing for this role?
