First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Lewisville.
Administrative Assistant
They first sent me an email to check if I was still interested. If I was, we scheduled a phone interview. The questions felt pretty standard, no curveballs. The interviewer explained the role and then kept asking questions.
- What makes you a good fit for this role?
Grants Specialist
It's a pretty thorough interview process. You'll probably have more than one person interviewing you and likely more than one interview. They do require background, driving, and drug tests. The questions aren't typical online ones, they're more about community service.
- How do you contribute to your community?
Recreation Leader
I applied through the city's job portal and a few weeks later, a Parks and Rec supervisor called me for an in-person interview. The interview was a panel with all the department supervisors, and they each asked questions from a list. It was pretty standard, and they said they'd let me know within a week as they had more candidates to interview. Weeks went by with no word. When I asked one of the supervisors why, she got flustered and gave unrelated excuses. She also mentioned they weren't done interviewing and that she and another supervisor didn't want to "compete" for candidates since there were multiple openings. I later found out they hired someone who quit after two days, and I still didn't hear back that the position was filled. I talked to a director who seemed unaware of what was happening in her department. Then, one of the supervisors who interviewed me called and said they went with another candidate, not knowing I already knew about the hire. When I asked why other candidates weren't considered for other openings, she stammered again, said they were reposting the job, and those interviewed would need to reapply. It seems like the leadership in Parks and Rec isn't transparent with candidates. Also, most hires are millennials, which feels like age bias. Given this, I won't apply there again.
- Can you share what your previous supervisors would identify as your biggest area for improvement?
Accountant
Had a phone interview with basic STAR questions. They asked why I was interested in the job and about my experiences in the field. The interviewer was nice and it was straight to the point. There weren't many responses after I answered the questions, which is typical for a state/federal interview.
- What draws you to this role?
- Could you tell me about your relevant experiences?
