First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Irving.
Environmental Compliance Specialist
Got a call, then set up an in-person interview. It was a single meeting where they asked general interview questions. Overall, it was a great experience! Salary negotiation was tricky though. Good luck! It's a great place to work.
- Can you tell me about your current work experience?
Crossing Guard
It was very in depth! They wanted to know every single job I ever had and every job I ever worked for, and account for gaps. They wanted information about drug use, and medications I take. I had to take a physical, which is not very extensive, and also do a urine drug screening test.
- Do you have a criminal record?
Utilities Maintenance Worker
First, I had to complete a math test with 20 questions. After that, I went into a room with three supervisors and three crew leaders. They gave me a list of colors and told me to remember them in order. Then they asked me some basic questions about the job and whether I thought I could do all the different tasks required. It wasn't overly challenging. Next, they pointed to tools on a table and I had to grab the right one when they called out its name. I might have missed a couple, but it didn't seem to be a big deal since I got hired anyway. Finally, they asked me to say the colors and their order back to them, which I figure was a memory test. That was pretty much the whole thing.
- Are you able to work in confined areas?
Billing Systems Technician
I applied online and then about 3 weeks later, the hiring manager reached out to me. We did a phone interview and then a face to face one. I got selected but didn't get the job because something on my background check came up that I wasn't aware of. HR said since I didn't list the name on my application, I can't get the job. They wouldn't listen even though I didn't know the name was linked to mine. Now I'm working with DPS to get it sorted out.
