First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Huntington Beach.
Intern
I arrived and went to the public works desk, letting them know I had an interview. They led me to a room where two engineers interviewed me, asking about 6-8 questions.
- In what ways have your past experiences equipped you for this position?
- What qualities make you the ideal candidate for this job?
- Describe your approach to managing several tasks simultaneously.
Data Analyst
A recruiter from RobertHalf contacted me about a temporary position with the City of Huntington Beach. I did an initial screening, and then an in-person interview with the hiring manager.
- Tell me about your experience with data manipulation.
- Can you explain the logic for identifying trends in large datasets?
Police Records Technician
So the police department has a really tough hiring process. First, you gotta take a competency exam. If you pass that, you'll get invited to an oral interview with a panel. Make sure you do your homework! You need to know about CLETS, general facts about the department, and basic law enforcement stuff. And definitely be ready to say the city's mission statement. Oh, and have a great question to ask them! After that, they'll schedule you for a medical exam, which includes an EKG and a lie-detector test. Then, there's a final oral interview with the chief. This whole thing can take a long time, like 3 to 8 months, and you might not even hear back for like 3 months after applying.
- Which of the organization's mission words do you feel represent you the most?
IT Technician
First, there was a written test that I passed with a 70% score, and it was an onsite interview. Second, there was an oral exam, which was a panel interview conducted over Zoom. Finally, the last interview was with the department, and it was also onsite.
- Can you tell me about your experience with IT Helpdesk?
