The interview process felt pretty standard and fair. It did take a while to hear back between the different stages. Even after they made the offer, it was about two months before I got a start date.

This hiring process took about a year, starting in Feb 2017 and ending at the academy in March 2018. First, I applied on 02/15/17, then took the Civil Service Exam on 03/04/17. My ranking came out 05/26/17, followed by the Physical Ability Test on 07/15/17. Then came a round of interviews, web-checks, photos, and background interviews from 08/16/17 to 11/22/17, which was also when the Background Investigation happened. After that, background summations were done on 11/22/17, leading to the Screening Committee on 11/27/17. The Director made a selection on 12/15/17, and I got a Conditional Offer on 12/7/2017. Next were the Medical Evaluations: Physical on 12/28/17, Stress Test on 01/26/18, MMPI test on 02/11/18, and Psychological Evaluations on 02/20/18. Hiring PIDS (now PAF’s) were submitted on 03/12/18, along with a second web check (background check). Finally, the Fire Academy Class began on 03/12/18.

I applied online and sent in my cover letter and resume. About a week after applying, I got a phone call for an interview. The receptionist was really nice and worked with my schedule, setting up the interview for after my work hours. It was a pretty casual interview, and I think I might have been a bit overdressed even though I tried to look professional. The interviewer seemed really impressed with my resume and mentioned that my financial experience would be a great asset for this role. I was pretty sure I'd get a call back, but unfortunately, I never heard from them.
