First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Calgary.
Process Improvement Specialist
The hiring manager reached out to me directly and gave me details about the role. I then received an email with information about the City of Calgary's hiring process. Following that, I had a formal online interview with the hiring manager and two team members. It was mostly behavioral questions. The second interview involved more in-depth questions about my background. The interviewers were really supportive throughout the whole process, which made it a positive experience, even though I didn't get the job.
- Can you tell me about a personal trigger that comes up when you're stressed and how you handle it?
Business Process Analyst
I applied online and got a call for an interview. It was a team interview with the hiring manager, one of their direct reports, and an HR rep. They really focus on the STARS method (situation, task, action, result) and don't spend much time talking about past jobs. I got an offer about a week after the interview and took it.
- Describe a time you were managing a project and experienced a change that prevented you from meeting the intended outcomes.
Process Analyst
I had an interview on Nov. 15th 2013 for the Process Procedure & Report Analyst position with Public Safety Communications. The interviewer explained that all behavioral questions would follow the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Answers should be structured under each STAR component. You could skip questions but had to return to them later. All examples needed to be phrased in the STAR format.
- What are the things that make you satisfied and dissatisfied in your job?
