It was a typical entry-level engineer interview. It was mostly behavioral questions, using the STAR method. They were pretty respectful and friendly, and they just wanted to know more details about my past work experience.

If you make the cut, the first step is a quick phone call, like 5-10 minutes, to chat about your background and what you bring to the table. After that, there's an in-person interview that's pretty substantial, about 60-75 minutes. Just like with other city jobs, they'll be using the STAR method. The folks interviewing are super patient and supportive; they'll help you out if you miss something in your answer. They don't want to trip you up, they want you to do well. My best advice? Just be yourself and don't try too hard to sound amazing. They're more interested in who you are than just your skills.

Had a virtual interview with two people. They first wanted to know about me, like my schooling, why I picked Civil Engineering, and what I liked about working for the City. Then we did the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) for some questions. They give you a topic and you have to answer using STAR. You can talk as much as you need to, and they won't interrupt until you say you're done. It seemed like they had a checklist for each question.
