It was a quick process, I got the job offer in about two weeks. The interview questions were tough, but I felt like I explained myself well and they liked my responses. Honestly, it was one of the better interviews I've experienced.

It was a panel interview where they had pre-scripted questions on paper and then asked their own questions. If you're from the private sector, these government employees think differently, they haven't experienced the pressure of revenue generation. The questions felt strange, like asking about promoting BLM in my personal life, and focused more on political and equity issues than the job itself. It felt like hiring was based on personal likability rather than qualifications, with a clear 'us vs. them' attitude towards the public. I wanted to use my business skills to help underserved communities, but sensed a toxic work environment.

I had a first phone chat with the hiring manager, and it was great. Then I had an in-person interview with her and three people I'd be working with, which also went well. A few weeks passed, and I was getting frustrated about not hearing back, even after following up. But then I got invited for another interview with the hiring manager's boss and skip boss. This one was shorter but went well too. I was then scheduled for a fourth interview with the CIO and CTO, but they cancelled the day before. I didn't hear anything for a few days, so I followed up via email. No response. Early the next week I emailed and left a voice mail, still no response. I followed up again with another email and voice mail, nothing. I sent one last email, copying someone else because I was worried about the hiring manager. She finally replied saying they decided to go in a different direction. I spent a lot of time interviewing with them and it took this long to get a rejection? It’s frustrating.
