So after I sent in my application, they asked me to send over a writing sample. A few days later, I had a Zoom chat with someone from the talent team. Honestly, it was one of the best interviews I've ever had. It felt super conversational and she really made me excited about the company. Then, about two weeks later, I had another Zoom interview with the philanthropy team, which was also great. Both of these involved pretty standard questions about my background and abilities. No weird curveballs or anything. They didn't end up offering me the job I applied for, but they did ask if I was interested in a different position they had open. I really appreciated them thinking of me for another role. I ended up declining the second opportunity because it just wasn't the right fit for me. I have nothing but good things to say about the organization and everyone I met.

I went through several phone interviews with different managers at Citizen Schools, all from different locations. Each interview was progressively more challenging. The managers were quite friendly and helped me feel comfortable, but they never followed up about my application status. They are less interested in knowing you as an individual and more focused on whether you'd be a good cultural fit. You might be a fantastic and enthusiastic educator with extensive experience, but if your answers don't align with their expectations, you likely won't receive an offer.

This was a complete waste of time! They called me several times for interviews at different campuses around NYC, with the first one in the Bronx and the second in Brooklyn. Each time, I got a tour of the school and met colleagues, making me think I'd be starting soon. During one interview, they spoke to me like I already had the job, so I figured I was a sure thing. After what seemed like the final step, I heard nothing for over a week, even though they'd been calling me daily the previous week. Finally, I got an email saying they couldn't offer me a position 'at this time.' It was a big let-down. I was hesitant to interview after seeing negative reviews, but I wanted to give them a chance. It's probably for the best.

I had 3 interviews total. First, there was an initial interview, then a follow-up interview, and finally an interview for placement since I was interested in credentialing. I felt like I wasn't given a fair chance at one of the sites that does credentialing because they needed me for my Spanish language skills at a different site. I might be mistaken, but I had a feeling I knew where I was going to end up before the interview even happened, based on simple demographics. It turned out I was right. This might be a strategic move on their part, but if that's how it is, it feels unfair to me.
