Graduate Student
It's an online interview with different people in a group. I haven't done it yet so I don't really know what it looks like, but the admin officers are very nice.
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
Student
It was a good experience overall. The faculty was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in me. They focused on getting to know me rather than testing me. I did rehearse some answers beforehand, but I didn't end up using them.
- Why ciis?
- Can you tell me about your application materials?
Coordinator
After a good initial screening call, I was invited to an in-person panel interview at their San Francisco office. Getting into the parking area was a bit of a hassle. The interview itself was with some staff and faculty and felt a bit formal and awkward, and the group was quite homogenous, which was surprising given their stated commitment to inclusion. Even though I drove all the way out there and paid for gas and the bridge toll, they never got back to me afterwards and just ghosted me.
- How do you unwind?
Multiple
I went through three interviews for three different roles. The interviewers were all very nice and helpful. After the interviews, I heard nothing back. No calls, no emails, and no response to my follow-up emails. I never even got a rejection email, even though I drove there, dressed up, and spent time interviewing. It would have been fine if I hadn't been interviewed in person, but after dressing up and showing up, a rejection email would have been appreciated. The whole process and follow-up was really bad. I would never apply there again or recommend it to anyone else.
- No particularly difficult or unexpected question.
