First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ciena.
Hardware Engineer Intern
They had me go to the office for the interview, where I was asked to code a class in pseudocode on a whiteboard and answer basic questions about polymorphism, UVM, and SystemVerilog. Apparently, most interns ended up doing their interviews online.
- Could you code a class in pseudocode?
- Can you explain polymorphism?
- What are your thoughts on UVM and SystemVerilog?
Hardware Engineer
I went through three rounds of interviews. It started with a prescreening call from HR, then a Zoom interview with two managers, and finally an onsite interview where I met the team and gave a short presentation. The managers were nice and gave me a tour. It was a smooth process, and even though I didn't get the job, it was a good experience.
- Can you tell me about your experience as listed on your resume?
- Do you have experience with data analysis?
- Have you worked with active devices before?
Hardware Engineer
So, I'm interviewing for a Hardware Engineer Co-op role, and the whole thing took about a week. Right after applying, HR set up this initial phone chat with me to ask a few things, like 'Why do you want to work at Ciena?'. Then, four days later, the real interviews kicked off with the hiring managers. These were phone interviews too, and they really dug into behavioral questions, plus some technical ones.
- Which subject did you like the most and the least?
- Can you define what a capacitor is?
