First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CIA.
Intern
Applied online in the summer, and a recruiter called the very next day. The whole hiring process is really long, like they say on their website, and it can be pretty touch-and-go sometimes. My first interview was all about personality, no technical stuff at all.
- Can you share a challenging group work experience you've had?
- Could you walk me through every detail on your resume?
Intern
So you fill out this really long application, then HR emails you a timed IQ and personality test. After a few weeks, they invite you for an on-site interview. It's all culture/fit questions, they don't ask any technical stuff because they already know your qualifications. They just want to see how you work in a team. They start the interview with a presentation about the CIA and its mission.
- Tell me about a time you disagreed with a teammate and how you handled it.
Intern
It took me 14 months from when I first applied to when my clearance was finally approved. In that time, I had a phone interview, an in-person flyout interview, a full-scope polygraph, a single-scope background check, and basic physical and psych evaluations. The full interview process is laid out on their website, and my experience matched it.
- Tell me about a time when... (behavioral)
- What would you do if... (situational)
