Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Christie's.
Specialist
They were really keen to hire me and asked a bunch of questions about my past work. I think they liked hearing that I've spent years working with very wealthy clients who are demanding and require a lot of hand-holding and assistance. They specifically asked me to recount an experience with a challenging client and how I managed to secure the deal.
- Can you share an example of how you dealt with a difficult client?
Specialist
The first interview is a standard fit questions interview with the business manager, it's not really an art knowledge test. The second interview is a timed cataloguing test with a specialist where you need to prepare and catalogue items according to Christie's standards.
- How familiar are you with Christie's technical systems?
- Can you describe the cycle of work?
- How do you manage when you have tight deadlines?
Specialist
I applied online and also emailed the intern director with my writing sample. She really liked my writing sample and gave me a call, which I assumed was to schedule an interview for later. But she actually offered me the job right then! She followed up about 4 months later with emails about workplace etiquette, dress code, and the confidentiality agreement. It was a super straightforward process. The company culture is pretty formal, with a clear hierarchy. They can come across as a bit snobby, honestly.
- Tell me about your writing sample and why you like the auctioning world.
- What got you into the auctioning world?
