First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Choice Home Warranty.
PHP Developer
So I had this phone interview first with HR, then another phone interview with the lead dev where he asked some technical questions. The HR person was really pressing me about my current salary, which I thought was weird and will soon be illegal anyway. Then they gave me this unpaid take-home test where I had to build a whole app with an API in raw PHP. I know I could do it, but it's a lot of free time (4-6 hours) for something that feels like a waste. I would've done it if it was paid, but asking for that much work for free from a small company like Choice, not a big tech giant, seems totally unreasonable.
- Can you explain how you would verify a user's login credentials?
Recruiting Manager
I spoke with about four different people during the interview process. It was pretty clear from a couple of them that they're overworked, underpaid, and have no work-life balance. They mentioned having to work during blizzards and can't work remotely, and they just seemed really stressed and unhappy. Actually, before I even went in for the interview, I was in the bathroom and overheard some employees talking about how miserable they were and that they were looking for new jobs. That really turned me off before I even walked in, and I couldn't wait to get out of there. It seemed like a really unhealthy work environment with a HIGH turnover rate!
- Can you tell me about your experience?
Director of Vendor Relations
The interview process was pretty standard. The recruiter was good with the initial phone screen and kept me updated. I did have some issues with senior management speaking poorly about the call center staff during the interview. They said the staff 'SUCKS' and is 'Terrible.' It was a big red flag hearing leadership say that, showing a lack of professionalism and tact. I wouldn't want to work for managers like that.
- Can you describe your approach to implementing changes within a workforce?
Customer Service Agent
The team is easy to work with and is made up of professionals. They are really into their business and industry, showing a lot of passion and intelligence. There's good potential to build a career here. I'm still going through the interview process.
