First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chinese-American Planning Council.
Accountant
So the first interview was about an hour long, and I talked to the controller and the manager. They asked some pretty basic stuff, like the difference between profit and non-profit orgs. Then about a week later, I had my second interview, which was in person with the CFO and HR. That one was also an hour and had a lot of questions about handling too much work.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- How would you handle challenging employees or a program officer?
- Could you explain the distinctions between profit-making and non-profit organizations?
Service Coordinator
I sent my resume via email and then the program director contacted me for an interview. The interview wasn't great, she seemed really cold and didn't seem encouraging. She seemed more focused on how I looked than my experience. When I asked about the job details, she couldn't explain the duties or responsibilities. It made me wonder if she actually knows her program. I wouldn't want to work with someone so unprofessional.
- What would you do if you discovered your supervisor made an error?
Navigation and Retention Specialist
The interview process was pretty good. They started by describing the background of the program and the position, and explained the duties. Then they asked typical interview questions and reviewed the resume experiences. Overall, they made sure the interviewee was comfortable during the process because interviews themselves are nerve-wracking.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Where do you see yourself in the next 2-3 years?
- What are your main strengths?
Educational Specialist
The interview process was straightforward. The interviewers seemed approachable and asked fairly basic questions. If you know yourself and your experience well, you should be able to get through it without issue. The interview was conducted in person and lasted about 25-30 minutes.
- Are you aware of what your responsibilities would entail?
- What is your approach to building relationships?
- Can you share if you have experience in developing your own lesson plans?
