I applied online and got a call from HR for some general info and to gauge my interests. Then, I had two in-person interviews. The first was with a junior trader where we discussed general trading topics. The second was with the head trader, and it involved brain teaser questions. I think bringing up trading-related questions shows you're really interested and might even have some experience already.

I met with a rep from Chimera at my university. It was a pretty standard interview where they asked me why I wanted to work in the field and what personal qualities I had that would make me a good trader. The questions were all really generic, nothing like a case study. Near the end, I asked about the salary for their training program, which they advertised as having a salary for the first few months. He told me that the policy had changed and the first three months of the training program are unpaid, with no guarantee of a full-time job offer after the program. I guess my poker face wasn't great when he asked if I was still interested, because I haven't heard back from them since.

The interview felt pretty chill, and I talked with a partner and a head trader. They mostly asked stuff about whether I'd be a good fit and how I handle risk. Basic probability questions for the technical part were asked, and also a brainteaser about finding a heavier marble out of nine using only two weighings.

  • How would you rate your risk aversion on a scale from 1 to 5?
  • Explain basic expected value probability.
