Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics.
Registered Nurse
I went through two interviews. The first one was with the manager, and then the second interview was with leadership staffing. They were both pretty chill and the questions weren't too hard. Each interview took about half an hour.
- What's an area of weakness for you?
Registered Nurse
So after I applied online, the first thing was this video interview. It might sound scary, but just prep for it like any normal interview and make sure you have a good spot to record – quiet, simple, and well-lit. Then I connected with a recruiter. They were helpful overall, though they did mess up once by scheduling me with a manager for a job that didn't match the hours I said I was available for. But that didn't work out, and luckily, they quickly set me up within 10 days for an interview for a position that did fit my schedule. The whole thing was pretty fast for me, I think it was less than a month from the video interview to when I started.
- Can you explain your motivation for wanting to join CMH?
- What are your key skills that would make you an excellent fit for this role?
Registered Nurse
I sent in my application, resume, and did a video interview. About 2 and a half weeks later, I got an invite for a digital interview. It was with a panel of 3 people and lasted around 35 minutes. The interviewers were really nice and paid attention. They asked about 4 or 5 behavioral questions, and then they told me about the orientation and training for the specific unit I applied to. I got to ask them some questions at the end.
- Can you share an instance where you championed a patient's needs?
- Describe a situation where you managed a challenging patient.
- What makes you a suitable candidate for this position?
