Railroad Conductor
The interview process was great and the transition was smooth. I felt welcomed and knowledgeable in the community, with lots of wonderful content on the platform. It gave me the confidence to feel fulfilled in my work role and offer insect research and research opportunities for my team.
- What was the last location where you performed research?
Paraprofessional
It was a Zoom interview with standard getting-to-know-you questions. The main thing they were concerned about was afternoon and evening availability. Also, working remotely was not an option. Good job for masters in education students. It's in a high crime area so I was not comfortable committing to working evenings.
- Can you work afternoons and evenings?
HR Administrative Assistant
I sent in my application online and then we set up a quick 30-minute phone chat with the recruiter. After that first call, I had a 45-minute Zoom meeting with the hiring manager. It was a typical Q&A, lots of behavioral and situational questions, especially about my experience with communication campaigns and managing projects. It seems like they're going through a big change, implementing a new system, and need someone to handle that. I got the feeling though that work-life balance might be tough and the pay isn't great for the workload. I wasn't too shocked when I got rejected because I fumbled some questions. The rejection email was pretty generic, like you'd expect from a big company, saying, "After careful consideration, we have decided to move forward with a candidate whose qualifications are better suited to this particular role."
- Can you tell me about your experience with communication campaigns or rollouts, and if you've built or reviewed any PowerPoint decks?
- Could you walk me through a time you received constructive criticism, how you handled it, and what you took away from the experience?
- Could you discuss your project management experience, and share an instance where a project's course changed or a hurdle arose, impacting your ability to meet deadlines?
Development Specialist
The interview process involved an initial phone screening with the program supervisor, then a panel interview with program supervisors and the director. This whole thing took about two weeks. The panel had 3 supervisors and the program director. They asked skill-based questions, not the usual generic ones. The supervisors were curious about why I wanted to join them, and the panel asked specific questions about how my previous work experiences fit with the job duties.
- Can you explain how your previous experiences align with the daily responsibilities of this role?
- In your opinion, what will your responsibilities be in this position?
- Could you provide an example illustrating your day-to-day activities in this role?
