I went to the store for a casual chat about my resume and open positions. It took about 30 minutes. I asked about diversity and how many women work there. The interviewer asked me why I was asking, and I explained that in this male-dominated field, I wanted to gauge potential for growth. The interviewer admitted the company has a sexist past, but seemed surprised by my question. This made me feel like my presence might be questioned if hired. While this isn't just about the interviewer, it reflects the company's culture. The company could improve inclusion through diverse staff, social media representation, and better interview training. I was offered a second interview but declined.
