First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.
Associate Planner
It was a pretty comfortable interview. They asked me about how I'd fit in with the team and what I was interested in, plus my work history. It wasn't super technical, no specific questions or tests on my GIS or software skills. It was a group interview where everyone got to chat with me. I also got a tour of the place, which was cool for checking out the office vibe.

Assistant Planner
The hiring process moves very slowly, so be prepared to wait. They need to wait until after the posting date ends before they review applications. They do this because of some sort of requirement. It will be a long wait though.

it went okay. it really depends on the person, the position, and how you present yourself, communicate, and show enthusiasm. show confidence and don't hesitate to ask whatever you think it's helpful to do the job, and also, your own requests, if you have any.

- What unique skills or value can you contribute to this role?
Intern
Just one round. There were two interviewers, and they asked me about my coursework and any experience I had with software. Other than that, it was pretty much the standard interview questions: why I'm interested in CMAP, what my goals are, etc. You have to be a current student to do this.
- What's your experience with GIS?
