Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chevron.
Software Engineer Intern
The interview process was really simple. They were very nice and accommodating when we were scheduling the first and second interviews. In the end, they didn't extend an offer, saying they wanted to hire someone more junior. I'm grateful for the experience and their time, but I wish they had been clearer about that from the start.

Technical Lead
I went through 2 rounds of technical discussions. The first was a panel interview, lasting over an hour, where they asked about my current project, my responsibilities, Azure Cloud and its technologies, team handling, and managing cross-functional work. It felt like it went well. The second round was a fitment interview with the line manager, about 25 minutes long. I thought that went well too, but afterward, the recruiter stopped responding about the outcome or feedback.
- Could you tell me about the project you're currently working on?
- What were your specific roles and responsibilities?
- What can you tell us about Azure Cloud and associated technologies?
Software Engineer
Scheduling was quick and follow-up was fast. The interview started on time and the interviewer was polite. But, there was a big mismatch in the role – the job discussed in the interview was not related to the Software Engineer – Integration/API role I applied for. They didn't give a clear explanation of the role before scheduling, and HR didn't provide role responsibilities or expectations beforehand. The interview was cut short abruptly after the mismatch, which was unprofessional and disappointing. Advice for management: make sure recruiters communicate the exact role, team expectations, and skill alignment before setting up interviews. It's frustrating for candidates to prepare and show up for jobs they didn't apply for. Being transparent during the initial screening would save time for both candidates and interviewers.
- What were the role expectations and responsibilities discussed?
- Was there a clear explanation of the role before the interview was scheduled?
- How did the role align with the skills required?
