First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chevron.
Engineer
The interview was great. The interviewer was friendly and really wanted to help you show your experience and personality as best as possible. They clearly explained the process after the interview and gave a concrete timeline.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated initiative and managed a situation effectively?
Engineer
I applied online to Chevron a couple days before their career fair at my university in October 2014. The recruiter I met at the fair remembered my application and mentioned my strong GPA. They wanted to interview me the next day on campus. Later that day, the recruiter confirmed the interview time and place. The interview was with two recruiters who were friendly and asked mostly behavioral questions. They let me ask questions too. They forgot to mention bringing a transcript, but I could email it later. They said my resume, academics, and work experience were great, and they liked hearing about my community service. They said I'd hear back in 6-8 weeks. I didn't get the position, and it took them until mid-February to let me know. Apparently, no one from my school was hired, possibly because students on the semester system had earlier career fairs and spots filled up.
- Can you share an instance where you collaborated with a team to overcome a challenge?
Engineer
It started with an on-campus lunch and then a one-on-one interview. I felt the on-campus interview didn't go well, but it was straightforward. Around two months later, out of the blue, I got a call from a Process Engineer at Chevron to schedule a phone interview. I expected a short call, but it ended up being a full hour panel interview with three Chevron executives and senior engineers. They asked only behavioral questions, nothing technical; it seemed like they cared more about finding good, nice people. The interviewers were nice, though initially intimidating.
- Can you share an instance where you had to exercise your moral judgment to refuse a decision that could have jeopardized safety?
