This interview left a bad impression. It wasn't typical. Normally, an interview begins with 'tell me about yourself,' but that never happened here. The interviewer asked about my high school days, which was quite strange since I finished high school about 8 years ago. I started to mention my high school activities like sports and clubs, but she interrupted and asked for my GPA. Then she inquired about my college GPA (which, naturally, was lower than my high school GPA) and seemed to have an attitude, as if it decreased my worth. Overall, a very peculiar and somewhat dehumanizing interview experience.

The hiring manager reached out on LinkedIn for an initial chat. Early in the call, she revealed the hours were 11am-8pm, which wasn't in the job post, making it seem misleading. She asked a lot about my current job's metrics and how they were calculated. She also asked for my high school GPA, which I said I didn't remember since I graduated 20 years ago. When I insisted I didn't know, I mentioned I was about middle of my class of 500, but still no GPA. When it was my turn to ask questions, she only allowed one before pushing for a second interview, which I agreed to. She confirmed via text and asked AGAIN for my high school GPA, wanting me to really search for it to get a better picture. I later canceled the second interview because of the odd hours and the general sketchiness of the process. Basing decisions on my high school GPA over 13+ years of experience isn't ideal.

This whole process felt really strange. The customer service manager reached out to me on LinkedIn three times about a job that felt like a step back for me. I agreed to a quick phone call just because I was curious about the company. But instead of learning much, they gave me a super short, scripted intro to the company. Then, they immediately jumped into asking about my work experience right after high school, wanting to know the exact year I graduated, which felt a bit questionable given age discrimination laws. They also asked for my GPA, which is not a typical question for experienced professionals. The call ended quickly, and I only got to ask one question after they basically grilled me about my past jobs and education. Honestly, I think they need a proper HR team to handle recruiting instead of letting managers do it themselves.
