The interview process was shorter but more demanding than anticipated for this top school district in the Denver Metro area, known for being tough to join due to higher than average teacher salaries and low turnover. The principal and department head at my school have been with the district for about 30 years, and most teachers here have tenure.

They showed me the classroom and said they'd follow up fast but didn't. I followed up, and after they checked references, I followed up again offering references from older roles that may be more reliably reached. They acted annoyed that I had done so, though follow up is normal.

This was a thorough interview process that really dug into questions of equity. It felt comprehensive, and I wish there were more students involved in the interviews. There were two rounds: the first involved staff and an administrator, and the second was just with the principal. They got back to me pretty quickly after the first round about scheduling the second. It came down to me and one other candidate for that final interview.
