It was pretty disorganized from the beginning. They actually brought the wrong team lead into the video call, so when the right one joined, he wasn't ready to interview anyone and was taken by surprise. The interview itself was a panel, and it was pretty standard and easy. After that, the team lead called me to chat more about the specifics of the job, which was nice. The recruiter, however, totally ghosted me. Every time I reached out, he'd promise to get back to me by a certain day, and then... nothing. This went on for like two months until I just gave up trying to reach him.

I was contacted by a recruiter and also applied online for the Program Analyst, SME role. She then arranged a Teams interview with three people, but only one of the original interviewers showed up, and another person replaced one of the others. The lead interviewer was an experienced professional from the joint staff who mentioned he's been there 3 years and had to give up his top secret clearance because the company's 8a subsidiary only has secret level jobs. This seemed like a red flag. The job description was identical to one I saw last month, so I asked if they were looking for a specific skill that the other company mentioned. He said he'd get back to me on that. He also mentioned the main company has 40 8a subsidiaries and that everyone has to attend a daily 8:30 am meeting. He told me the job location, which is a building I've worked in before. He didn't seem very knowledgeable about the job description and didn't ask about my relevant skills or experience. I got a poor impression of him. He and the other interviewer shared personal details about their families, which I found inappropriate for an interview, and she mentioned she was learning on the job. The overall impression was that the company is poorly managed.

A former colleague reached out to me about a Systems Engineer role at Chenega, even though I wasn't actively looking. He thought I'd be a good fit and scheduled a 1-hour call to discuss the position, which wasn't officially posted yet. He said he'd get back to me in a few weeks. A few weeks later, he confirmed the job was posted. I reviewed the description and wasn't sure I was a fit, so I requested a second call. During that second call on Friday, I decided to go for it and asked him to submit my application, feeling confident I could do the work. On Monday, the internal recruiter contacted me for a call to go over salary, benefits, and other details. Then, they scheduled a panel interview with the team for the next day (Tuesday). I felt the interview went well. On Wednesday morning, I got an email saying I was accepted! I called the recruiter to ask a few more questions and was told I'd receive the official offer letter by EOD. I got the offer letter by 2 pm. My onboarding had some hiccups outside of Chenega's control, mainly due to a contract assignment requiring a background check, which took longer than expected. Before my start date, I had a few calls with the program manager and team members to prepare me for the initial weeks. Overall, the process was great, and I've been at Chenega for almost a year.

Was on my way out, so I asked the site lead about potential openings. They didn't really know what I did, but they knew the customer was happy. The project manager also didn't know what I did, but also knew the customer was happy. I was hired on the spot. About a year later, I had to explain my role to the project manager. He walked out halfway through my explanation, saying it was beyond his understanding.
