First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chef Koochooloo.
Editor
The company forgot about our interview until I reminded them. The interview was a group exercise where many interviewees had to edit a manuscript in a Google doc for free. I felt uncomfortable with the process and decided not to continue. It didn't feel professional at all.
- Can you tell me about your experience working with publishers?
Product Manager
It was a complete scam. I was contacted for an interview right away. During the 30-minute interview, they asked me to do a test on the spot. Usually, a PM test involves assessing your skills with a hypothetical situation. They went through over 50 slides of their app with me, asking for my critique and suggestions for improvement. It felt like they were trying to get free consulting instead of genuinely hiring someone. They should hire a consultant if they want that kind of service.
- What improvements can you suggest for our product without compensation?
Software Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward. First, I had to do an assignment related to the company's development work and how to make it better. After that, they checked my references. About two weeks later, I got a phone call. During the phone interview, they asked about my past experiences and how I'd explain tech stuff to non-technical people. They also asked how my experience could help the company and what I seek in a workplace. They offered me the internship right away, with a chance for a full-time position later.
- Why are you interested in working for an EdTech company, and how can you work effectively remotely?
- What makes you want to work for an EdTech company, and explain how you would be able to work remotely?
Manager
Had a simple hiring call, then met the team. They asked some questions about our company's traction up to this point, and about my prior writing work. Then I was hired right away and got my assignments.
- What are your reasons for wanting this position?
