Senior Recruiter
I had a phone screen with the recruiter, that's as far as I got. Typical phone screen questions were asked. At the end of the call, the recruiter kept pushing for a junior role that wasn't really related to my experience. They promised to get back to me in a day or two, but I didn't hear back for 2 weeks. Finally, the recruiter made up an excuse and pushed for another entry/jr level role, different from the one I applied for and was qualified for.
- Can you share an example of a challenging role you've had to fill?
Technical Recruiter
phone interview with recruiter followed by an onsite panel interview with the team (hr, engineering, and recruiting). people were really nice. it's an exciting company and product. the process was smooth and fast. got a gift bag with a checkr t-shirt, which was unexpected.
- Can you describe your sourcing strategy?
- What methods do you use for process improvement?
- How do you approach recruiting for diversity?
Recruiter
My interview process with Checkr went on for 35 days and I had an extremely negative and poor candidate experience. Despite positive feedback and the hiring manager wanting to move forward with an offer, the panel had a different agenda. I met with more than 5 people, prepared a very involved, time-consuming project that had 10 prompts disguised as 2 prompts (it came out to over 10 hours of unpaid work), and then did a presentation for final round interviews. I waited for more than a week for an update and had to follow up several times to see if there was any news. It was also clear early on that the real decision-makers for the role were not a part of the interview process. I met with mostly people in the People org, not the key stakeholders/hiring partners for the role. Based on the final feedback I was given for why we weren't moving forward, it sounded like hiring partners came in last second and changed the profile. The new profile they wanted for the role was not only more senior than my background but also more senior than the hiring manager! The company has struggled for years to retain and scale their People team, so I knew going in it was messy, but it seems they still have not figured out what they need in their Recruiting function.
- Humility is one of our core values, what's the toughest feedback you've ever received and how did you handle it?
