First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Checkout.com.
Sales Manager
I went through three interviews. The first was a face-to-face with a regional manager. Then I had an interview with a European manager, followed by a case study involving a group of three people. I put together a really good case study that included market and competitive analysis, along with short-term and long-term sales strategies. They seemed to like it and asked some questions. In the end, I was rejected because they said they needed a native Spanish speaker with market experience, even though they didn't mention this as a requirement throughout the process, which took about two months.
- What would your key performance indicators be for the first 30, 60, and other time periods?
Sales Manager
I went through 3 rounds in fall 2023 but didn't proceed because I was told I lacked experience, even though my interactions were positive and I detailed my negotiation strategies and successes. They reached out again recently to continue our discussions, but I was rejected the next day based on feedback from a fall 2023 interviewer. They didn't assess my industry knowledge 9 months later. It's evident Checkout sees me as a good candidate since they keep reopening talks. I provided examples of customer stories and my winning negotiation tactics, explaining why they were or weren't suitable for my previous payments company. These kinds of interview experiences discourage women from advancing their careers. Aside from narrowly missing one qualification, I showed excellent proof of my achievements in my last role. I'm confident a male candidate would have been hired immediately. Looking at LinkedIn, most sales roles at Checkout are held by men, which is disappointing and seems biased. Improve this. Overall, I'm glad I won't be joining this company.
- Can you share a story about a merchant you worked with that you are particularly proud of?
Sales Manager
The hiring process was really fast and I felt it went smoothly. Overall, it was a good experience, and I appreciated getting detailed feedback after each step. The process involved: 1. A 30-minute call with a recruiter. 2. A 60-75 minute call with the Hiring Manager. 3. A 60-minute take-home assignment, which was a roleplay presentation and an interview exercise. 4. A panel interview consisting of four 30-minute calls with different team members. 5. Finally, a call with the recruiter to discuss the outcome.
- What motivates you to apply to Checkout.com?
- Can you share your background and how it aligns with the requirements of this position?
- If you were to join, what types of merchants or clients would you prioritize?
