Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Check City.
Teller
They did a phone interview with a few questions. I got the job offer right then on the phone. Then I had to go to a physical place to fill out some paperwork for a background check.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer.
Teller
I applied for the teller position through Indeed and heard back from HR a week later about a virtual interview. In that interview, they asked about my availability, and since I said I was flexible, they set up a second, in-person interview for two days later. When I got there, I was early, got buzzed in by the HR manager, and had to do a quick math test and fill out paperwork for a background check. It felt more like chatting with a friend than a formal interview.
- Can you share an instance where you had to handle a very upset customer?
Teller
I went to a corporate office and was given a second application and a math test. I had to wait about 30 minutes, which was a bummer, but after working with them I get that it's a pretty sad company. I was asked about my life and the HR person said she'd get back to me because her boss was slow to respond to hiring decisions. A week later, they called with an offer that was less than I asked for, but I accepted since I had experience in a different field and no loan experience.
- What can you tell me about your life?
Teller
The hiring manager calls you in for an interview. It includes a basic math test and typical customer service interview questions like "What did you like most and least?" and "Tell me a time...?" It wasn't difficult or unexpected.
