First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chatbooks.
Data Engineer
It was a solid technical interview. The HR person was nice and easy to talk to. The technical part was about an hour, and the HR chat was about 30 minutes. They really dug into the technical questions, and the interviewer seemed very knowledgeable.
- Can you tell me about how you've used Python in your past roles?
Director
I was headhunted for this role. The first interview went really well, even going over the scheduled time. I felt like I answered the questions effectively and that there was mutual interest. Then, I had a follow-up interview with HR to talk about company culture and benefits, which also went great. I tried following up multiple times with everyone I'd spoken to after the interviews, but I've been completely ghosted by the headhunter, the interviewer, and HR. The company itself seems fantastic, but the hiring process didn't really match what I expected based on their culture and how they present themselves.
- What's your background with acquisition marketing channels?
Marketing
The interview process had six steps, with a total of eleven people involved. It started with a virtual recorded interview, then a phone screen with the recruiter, followed by a phone screen with the direct manager. After that, there were two panel interviews, each with three teammates. Finally, there was a phone call with another manager. While the process moved quickly and the recruiter was kind and kept me updated, even calling with the final decision instead of an email, my main issue is the sheer amount of time and effort it took (hours of meeting with 11 people plus prep) to ultimately be rejected. It felt like companies expect candidates to give an unlimited amount of time and energy during the decision-making process, without considering the candidate's time is valuable and limited. A better balance is needed.
- Can you explain a job change?
- How do you work with other departments?
- Describe a situation where you had a complication with a teammate.
User Experience Designer
First, a 30-minute Phone Screen with the recruiter to ensure my qualifications matched the job description and the company's core values. Then, a 1-hour 1:1 Video Call with the Hiring Manager where we discussed my past experiences relevant to the role. She was supportive and her questions helped me articulate my values effectively. Finally, a 1-hour Video Call with the team of 5 designers. They seemed excited to meet me and were engaged throughout. I presented two projects and answered their questions, then had the opportunity to ask them about the team.
- What was the main challenge you faced during this project?
