Coding Technical System Design

Recruiter was very responsive. Had a hiring manager screen, then a code signal industry assessment and a system design interview. System design was straightforward with clear expectations, not a typical system design problem. Overall it was a great experience, though I messed up the industry assessment. The hiring manager and team had a friendly and positive vibe. I'd interview again.

Behavioral Technical

The interview process felt condescending from the recruiting side and the Director of Eng seemed disinterested and unprepared. This is just one of many health-tech startups, so if you have a better offer, take it. It started with a recruiter call where they questioned a short resume gap after 7 years at my previous company and asked if I had a good relationship with them, implying they'd check references. Then, the Director of Eng interview, where they seemed uninterested, didn't provide feedback, and I received a boilerplate rejection. It's ironic for a behavioral health startup.

Coding System Design Behavioral

The interview process started with a Codesignal assessment, followed by a System Design round and two Behavioral interviews. The pay at Charlie Health seems really low, like 140k-170k for a mid-level role in NYC, and the recruiter and I were not aligned on this, which led to my rejection. They require engineers to be in the NYC office 4 days a week and only provide food twice a week. It feels like the company is cutting corners. They aim to hire top talent but can't offer competitive compensation, and they end up rejecting candidates who are perhaps overqualified (or maybe they knew I would reject them, so they rejected me first). The interviews themselves are quite easy, which suggests the current engineering talent might be average, yet they are seeking high-caliber engineers. I wish them luck.
