Charles Koch Foundation General Intern Interview Questions
& Process

I sent in my application online. It was a pretty long process because I had to answer about 5 standard libertarian questions about my views on government in essay form, in addition to submitting my resume. After that, I got an email to schedule a time for a phone interview, which lasted about 20-30 minutes. They asked the same basic libertarian questions again, like about my views on government and what its role should be. I felt like I gave good examples because my political and financial background is probably what they're looking for. The interviewer seemed to rush through the questions and wasn't very engaged with my answers, even though they were pretty much what they wanted to hear. He'd just say 'sure' after I gave a thoughtful response and then move on without really acknowledging it.

I logged into a video call for the interview and the interviewer joined right on time. She was calm and nice, and seemed really into what I was saying. The questions she asked were super specific to my own ideas and experiences. It felt like she was making up the questions as we went, since they were connected and often based on something I just said. You gotta be ready to back up anything you say, they'll ask a bunch of questions to make you really dig into your thoughts.

I went through three interviews with Koch Institute, which is their usual process. The first two were phone calls and the last one was on Skype. I answered all the questions without much trouble. After passing all three interviews, I was waiting to hear back about my offer. They said they'd call within two weeks, but it took 16 days. They then offered me a fall internship, which wasn't the position I applied for. Since I have school in the fall, I had to turn it down, and it wasn't even the job I wanted. I felt like it was pretty sneaky of them to not just reject me for the summer internship and then try to switch the role on me.
