First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chapman Freeborn.
Freelance OBC
Had a 1-hour phone chat discussing the job: requirements, duties, when you're free, and also stuff like visas, customs rules, insurance, police checks, and tracker tags. Even after you get all that set up, there's no promise of any work.
- How often do you fly?
Sales Representative
So first there was a phone screening, then two more interviews. The first of those had more questions, and the second was pretty quick and way more relaxed than I thought it would be. There were 2-3 people in that one, and honestly it was a great experience overall! I left feeling pretty good about it. Some other interviews feel like they're interrogating you, asking things like 'Why should we hire you?' I liked that Chapman Freeborn didn't come across as arrogant though; it was more like a chill conversation to get to know me and for me to get to know them.
- In three words, how would your friends describe you?
Marketing Executive
I applied online and heard back later that week for an interview. They said I'd have an ability test and when I asked for details, they told me it was a basic problem-solving and aptitude test that I couldn't prep for, which seemed weird as it wasn't marketing-related. I thought it might be a competency-based interview, but it was just random questions. The receptionist and HR were nice. I did the test for 20 minutes, which was number sequences and basic problem-solving. Then the interviewers asked me to 'tell me how your experience matches the job profile.' After that, they asked random questions that didn't seem prepared or related to the job. One interviewer was really rude and unprofessional, swearing and being aggressive like an interrogation. They didn't even ask why I wanted to work there. No one took notes and the questions seemed unprepared. On my way out, one interviewer said an answer sounded 'awful.' It felt very unprofessional, and I wouldn't recommend the company based on this experience. I was glad I didn't make it to the next round.
- What do you like and dislike most about marketing?
- Where would you be and why, if you could be anywhere at any time?
- What would you do if you could do anything?
Charter Broker Trainee
The initial interview was a phone call, which went really well with some questions from a super nice HR person. After that, I was invited to the local Chapman Freeborn office in Johannesburg for a face-to-face interview. They asked me some questions and gave me a really good intro to the company's history and future goals, making me really want to join. A few days later, they called to offer me the position and asked about my possible start date. They kept in touch a lot while I was serving my notice with my old company, keeping the excitement high.
