Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
Product Management Director
It was a long interview process, and the hiring team seemed unsure. I went through multiple interview rounds, which included a detailed presentation. I guess the hiring team had a really good candidate pool, making it tough to pick. But, it felt like they really didn't respect my time. Also, the process didn't seem to welcome people from backgrounds different from tech, like those in biotech. In the end, I felt like the company's time was wasted and they weren't clear on the skills they needed.
- Had to prepare an extensive and detailed product presentation and went through 5 different rounds of interviews
Product Manager
It was a 3-part interview process. The first part was a 30-minute call with a recruiter. The second part was a video call with the hiring manager, focusing on my experience and behavioral questions. The third part was a full day interview with 6 components: a presentation (based on a prompt provided beforehand), product thinking, product execution, two collaboration interviews (behavioral), and a casual chat with the hiring manager covering behavioral aspects and learning more about the job. The recruiter, Nicole, was great – very transparent, friendly, and kept me updated. Everyone I met was welcoming and asked thoughtful questions in a relaxed setting. I recommend checking the CZI careers page for a detailed process overview, which is what I received before the final round. The presentation details come separately from the recruiter. Prep well for the presentation, product thinking, and execution parts, as they're the most demanding.
- I've signed an NDA and can't share specifics. There were no brain teasers or unusual PM interview questions.
Product Manager
After initial screening calls with the recruiter and HR Manager, which I thought went well, I was ghosted. I tried reaching out via email and text, but received no response, even though the texts were read. This recruiter seems to have a history of this behavior, which is unprofessional and disrespectful, especially given recent difficult times. Recruiters represent the organization, and their actions should reflect better on the company.
- What motivates your interest in this company?
