Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
Senior Associate
The HR rep I chatted with was super nice during the initial phone call. They gave me a bunch of good info about the company and what the job is all about, and they made sure to answer anything I asked.
- Could you describe your experience that's relevant to this position?
Program Associate
The first step was a 30-minute chat with the recruiter to talk about CZI and the job, check out my skills, and get me ready for the hiring manager interview. They asked me to write and send a cover letter before the next interview, which I thought was weird for this point. The second interview with the hiring manager was not good. He was a jerk and acted like I was bothering him. It's sad that someone like that works in Education and Social Justice. He was probably smart and knew his stuff because of how he answered my questions, but being smart doesn't matter if you have a bad attitude. I knew in the first 2 minutes I didn't want to work with him, so I was glad to hear I didn't get to the next round.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in philanthropy?
- How do you handle situations where you don't know what to do in a project?
Senior Associate
This role had 5 rounds of interviews over three months. The first three were behavioral and experiential. The fourth was a take-home case study. The fifth was another behavioral interview or meet and greet.
- Can you walk me through your investment experience?
- Could you describe a diligence or investment you managed from start to finish?
