First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chalmers University of Technology.
PhD Student
The interview process was straightforward and easy to understand. They asked about my willingness to relocate, as I was living abroad at the time. We discussed my previous jobs and accomplishments. The setting was calm and online, a relaxed conversation that included some laughter.
- Why are you the right person for this role?
PhD Student
My interview process started with a one-hour Skype call. After that, they mentioned they would contact my references, which they never did. I then moved on to a one-hour assignment. It took them over two weeks to reject me after I submitted the assignment. I feel like they kept me in consideration just in case their top choice didn't accept. They never gave me feedback or contacted my references, leading me to believe I was just a backup.
- Can you describe a conflict you were involved in?
PhD Student
I applied through the website and then went in person to talk to the Professor in charge to show my interest. On the first day, I talked about my background, in both academics and personal life. Then I explained why I was interested in this position. After that, they asked some technical questions related to my background, like what I studied and my scores in courses. Then I was asked to give a presentation the next day about my previous project or my understanding of the current position. They asked some followup questions after the presentation and I got an answer within a day. It seemed like the interview was to check if I had an eligible academic background and if I could learn new things and do research.
- I presented my understanding of the new proposed PhD position I applied for. Then a question was raised, do you have any idea on how to move in as a researcher!
