First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cepton.
Optical Engineer
First, there was a general interview with the team lead, focusing on how much you know about the company. After that, a technical loop interview with three employees (your potential teammates) to test your knowledge. Finally, an executive interview to discuss administrative matters.
- Regarding lidar systems, what is the significance of the return signal strength?
Perception Software Engineer
Had a screening call with the recruiter where we talked about basic behavioral stuff and if I met the job requirements. Then, I got a take-home coding question, which was medium difficulty. Unfortunately, I was rejected after submitting it.
- What makes you stand out from other candidates?
- Are you proficient in this particular programming language?
Computer Vision Engineer
The interviewer seemed unwilling to truly understand my responses and was insistent on receiving answers that precisely matched their expectations, even if the core idea was conveyed with a different example. They unexpectedly focused heavily on domain-specific questions during what was supposed to be a resume review and introduction call. The interviewer stated, 'Surprising, but you cannot prepare for our interviews so we don't tell people that it's a domain round.' Their attitude was condescending, and they frequently interrupted me before I could fully explain my answers. Overall, it was an exceptionally negative interview experience.
- Can you explain Linear Regression?
- What are Fourier Transforms?
- Tell me about Pointers.
Software Engineer
So the interview got rescheduled like 4 times from their side, and they kept changing the times without telling me. Finally, they picked a really random time for the interview. The interviewer asked some good basic questions about C++, computer vision, and linear regression, but honestly, they didn't even try to get what my answers meant. It felt like they were stuck on super specific details and didn't care about my thought process at all. Not a great experience if you're looking for a thoughtful discussion.
- Can you describe what the output of a linear regression function would be?
- What distinguishes RTOS from Linux?
