After a call with the CEO, I was invited for a half-day on-site interview. It started with a presentation I gave, followed by questions from the team and PIs. Then, I had one-on-one chats with department heads. We wrapped up with a tour. The workplace didn't feel right; the employees seemed uninspired.

So first up was like a quick 10 minute call, then I had to do some online tests, like a logic and personality one. After that, I had the final interview where I talked to 3 different people. They asked me about my past work and then all of them asked me to explain PCR.

The job was with Molecular Vision Lab (MVL) in Hillsboro, which is part of Centrillion. First, there was a phone screen that went fine. Then, the onsite interview with MVL was nice. The team is small and there's only one person in this role currently. All communication with MVL was professional, informative, and on time. However, I can't say the same for Centrillion. They asked me about my citizenship, which is illegal and discriminatory. They told me my $80K salary expectation was too high for this PhD-level position. They made me do a weird personality test with some questions that were also borderline discriminatory, asking about political beliefs. The HR person at Centrillion forgot to give me the bioinformatics technical assignment until after my onsite. After the onsite, the HR contact at Centrillion became unresponsive, and now there's no reply at all. I wouldn't recommend working for a Centrillion company.

It was a pretty easy interview process, honestly. Since it's a startup, they didn't really do any heavy algorithm testing. I got through two rounds and then they asked for three references. They mentioned I was pretty much a shoo-in unless something weird came up with my references. After that, I heard nothing for ages. I emailed them to check in, but they totally ghosted me. I even tried calling the guy who interviewed me, but he just hung up on me 3 or 4 times when I asked to speak to XXXX. Super rude! Seriously, if you're looking for a real job opportunity, don't waste your time here.
