The recruiter was nice and I felt good about the company. I was told my second interview would be a technical interview with upper management. However, when I checked the interviewer's LinkedIn, they didn't list any technical skills or experience. During the interview, no technical questions were asked. It felt like I was providing free consulting, and the interviewer was a bit demeaning. There's no need to be rude or disrespectful.
- Can you share your background and the reasons for leaving your previous position?
Claims Specialist
I first heard from a recruiter, and after saying I was interested, they set up a phone interview. It was with HR leading and the hiring manager present but not very involved, which felt odd. They wanted to keep it to about 30 minutes, which might have been okay if they didn't ask for my whole history before insurance, which took up a lot of time. I'm not a big talker, but I felt like I was constantly being cut off for the next question. By the end, exactly 30 minutes, they said they had lots of other interviews that day, which is why it was so short. It really felt like a cattle call. I spent way more time with the recruiter beforehand talking about my experience than I did in the actual interview. If I'd had more time to talk about my experience and answer questions fully, maybe it would have gone better. But if a company can't spare an extra ten minutes to talk to a candidate, it makes you wonder about the company culture.
- Could you tell me about the commercial and personal lines appetites of your previous and present employers?
Programmer/Analyst
I got a call from HR asking me to come to their Alpharetta office. Once there, I had to take a computer aptitude test and then answer a bunch of behavioral questions. After that, I met two of the programmer/analysts who work there. The next interview was over the phone with two IT managers who asked me some semi-technical questions. For the third interview, I was flown out to the main office to meet the same two programmer/analysts I'd met before. They covered my flight, hotel, parking, and gas. I had dinner with them the night I arrived. The next morning, I met the VP of IT for about 15 minutes. Then, an IT manager and a supervisor interviewed me for 45 minutes. After that, the same two IT managers from the phone interview talked to me for another 45 minutes. To top it all off, the employment manager interviewed me on the drive back to the airport! This totally surprised me. They asked a mix of behavioral and semi-technical questions. I didn't have to do any actual coding.
- Can you explain database normalization?
- Have you worked with C# before?

It started with a phone screen, then a few weeks later, I interviewed with the hiring manager. A couple of days after that, there was a technical interview. After that, I never heard back. I called and emailed multiple times over the next several months and couldn't get an answer until November. I was told they would get back to me the next week, and then they said nothing. The hiring manager was great and seemed to have a good impression of me, but the fact that the company couldn't even be bothered to send an automated rejection email really stings.
