It started with a casual chat with the hiring manager and a developer to make sure we were on the same page about expectations. We discussed my past work, and they clarified things about the company and the role. After that, I sent over some of my code. Then, I went in for an in-person interview. It was pretty relaxed, mostly discussing my previous projects and my approach to development. They also shared their own development process and how they thought I'd fit in. It wasn't heavily technical, which was a nice change.

Behavioral Presentation Other

I was contacted by HR within a week of applying and scheduled a phone interview with two employees in the consulting department. Overall the process was friendly and communicative. The two Centerline interviewers were friendly and outspoken but had very little idea of what they wanted the position to look like, and had rough broad descriptions of the BI/AA role they envisioned. It turns out that Centerline is looking to grow their consulting practice, and this role appeared to be at the center of that goal. This was not at all communicated in the Job Description or prior to the interview, so it was much more of a discussion about the concepts behind the role then an actual job. Overall, for a Marketing company to want to break into the BI space is a lofty goal, and the two interviewers both had a limited grasp on the enormous challenges this would entail. The interview felt directed much more by me then by them, which was not a positive feeling for a role that was supposed to involve a large amount of responsibility under the interviewers supervision.

I was approached by a senior leader on LinkedIn and applied. About a week later, I had an initial phone screen with the recruiter. Then, a week after that, I met with two account managers. The following week, I met with another team member and two more senior leaders who seemed really excited about me. Two days after that, they told me 'the timing was not right.' I thought it was really strange that three senior leaders didn't know this two days prior when I spent two hours meeting with them. If you knew that before, you should have cancelled the interview and not wasted everyone's time, including your employees'.

I had an initial call and then a second interview. In the second interview, it became apparent that the agency was seeking someone for a very specialized role, which didn't quite match the online job posting. They were quite vague when I asked about the day-to-day, how they interact with clients, and opportunities for career growth. Honestly, it felt like just another digital agency with extremely high turnover, trying to mask it with superficial perks like happy hours that wouldn't appeal to most people.
