Counselor
I was interviewed after coming from acute mental health. They wanted to know about my verbal deescalation skills, the populations and ages I've worked with in mental health, and my professional boundaries concerning patients asking personal questions, attempting to connect on social media, or trying to friend me.
- Regarding patients who may ask personal questions, attempt to become friends, or connect on social media, how do you establish boundaries?
- Could you describe the coping mechanisms you utilize, both within and outside of your professional capacity, to manage your emotional state during work?
Counselor
The interview was in-person at the facility and took about 30 minutes. I got a tour of the facility while I was there. I heard back early the next week that they were interested in hiring me and was given details on the rest of the hiring process, which included getting a physical, TB test, and 10 panel drug screen, along with other paperwork some needing a notary. The interview was pretty standard, focusing on my desire to work in the field and how my skills/experience have prepared me for the job.

Counselor
The interview was pretty straightforward. It consisted of a few "tell me about a time" questions. The interview itself was short, about 20 minutes, mainly because I asked a lot of questions. I was given a tour of the facility and then had to fill out a paper application. After I got the job offer, I had to complete a Live Scan, Drug Test, and Background check. This whole process took about 3 weeks, but it was during the holidays, so I imagine it would have been quicker at a different time of year.
