Product Manager
The interview process involved a recruiter call, where the recruiter was very helpful and supportive. This was followed by a call with the hiring manager, who was also pleasant and professional. The questions were reasonable and the interviewers were pleasant.
- Are you comfortable taking on multiple responsibilities?
- What is your approach to managing stakeholders with unreasonable expectations?
Product Management Director
I applied online and about a month later a recruiter reached out to schedule an initial phone interview. I sent over my availability, and we confirmed a time. On the day of the interview, I was ghosted. Around 25 minutes past the scheduled time, I emailed the recruiter to see where they were, as I had confirmed the time in my email. Hours later, I received an apology email stating they were pulled into a meeting and asked to reschedule for later that week. It makes you wonder if I hadn't followed up, would they have even reached out to reschedule or apologize? Given the mediocre Glassdoor reviews and this treatment of Director-level candidates, I doubt this is a company worth considering.

Product Manager
The whole process took about 6 weeks and had 6 rounds in total. I applied online and the first interview was a remote call with my direct manager in San Francisco. The interview went well and questions were about my education and work experience. After that, I was given a writing task to do a product marketing analysis, which took me two days. The next week, I had 2 remote interviews with people from the Boston headquarters, followed by an onsite interview in the SF office. The final round was a remote call with two VPs. Cengage has a tradition of multiple interview rounds, so this was expected. Be ready to talk to over 10 people. The people at Cengage were very nice and smart, and they look for specific characteristics and backgrounds. The SF office is in a nice building with a fountain. I'm happy I got the offer.
- How would you handle a conflict within your team?
