This was a positive interview experience for the Marketing Coordinator role. It started with a phone screen with Recruiter Marcia Dorfman, who made me feel relaxed. After passing, I was invited to an in-person interview with the VP of Marketing and a Marketing Coordinator. Marcia was helpful with scheduling this, even with my travel time. The in-person interviews felt like open, engaging conversations. I had previously interviewed for a Digital Content Coordinator role and didn't get it due to lack of technical experience. Marcia called to explain why I didn't get that role, which really showed me the company culture at Cengage Learning and made me want to work here even more.

I got an email from a recruiter to set up a phone interview a few days out. The recruiter seemed really unenthusiastic and unprepared during the call, like she hadn't even looked at my resume. The weirdest part was when she asked about salary expectations. I told her the market rate based on my university's career services, and she implied I was asking for too much, saying the job paid $20k/yr less than that. It felt unprofessional for someone in HR to be so out of touch with the job market. It left a really poor impression.

Everyone was super friendly and real, and they kept me updated. What I really liked was that after each interview stage, the recruiter would check in with me to see how it went and if I wanted to chat briefly about it or ask questions or bring up anything. I've gone through this whole process (info call to onsite to references) with over 10 companies, and this was hands down the best and most upfront experience.
