After the initial chat with the recruiter, there were 3 more stages. First, a coffee chat with the team lead. It was great to learn more about the team and talk about my background. The lead even spent extra time answering my questions. Then, a tech challenge that felt pretty cool and gave a good idea of what the job entails. No weird questions, thankfully. The tech interview focused on Angular but also covered important general concepts. Finally, I interviewed with the VP, who asked some really good questions about how I decide on UI stuff.

This role was advertised as remote, and I mentioned 3 times I needed full-time remote, which they said was fine. Turns out, it wasn't. The interview had 5 steps: HR phone screen, a coffee chat about the role, a take-home coding challenge (Spring Boot), a 1-hour presentation/demo of the challenge solution, and a final meeting with senior management. I got through step 4 and had step 5 scheduled when they told me the role was hybrid, even though I said I couldn't relocate. This happened after 3 weeks and several hours of my time on interviews and the assessment. It felt like a total insult to my personal time, and frankly, unprofessional. I'm actually glad I didn't get hired by a company that disrespects candidates and has outdated in-office policies.

The interview process felt excessively long for a non-FAANG European company. It started with a 30-min recruiter call, followed by a 45-min hiring manager call. Then there was a 3-4 hour take-home assessment, which I had to present for 1 hour. After that, there were two 90-min phone screens focusing on DS and algo (45 min each). What's frustrating is that this lengthy process doesn't even account for the final on-site rounds. During one of the interviews, the interviewer struggled to explain the problem clearly and only revealed additional requirements halfway through, which felt like a waste of time. It's disappointing that they don't offer feedback after taking up so much of a candidate's time.
