A recruiter contacted me about a week after I applied. We had a 30-45 minute chat about the company, recent changes, the team, and the role, then talked about my career path and relevant experience. Pretty standard stuff. The next interview was with the hiring manager for about 30 minutes. They gave a quick intro about themselves and the company, then dove into specific industry questions, essentially checking my knowledge and ability to analyze and present my viewpoint. They talked a lot about company culture, independence, and the freedom to explore intellectual interests. After that, there was a writing test with two 500-word sections: (1) writing/extracting insights from given data with a white paper example, and (2) industry expertise/client communication using a provided deck. Both had high-level prompts and assessment criteria, plus partial data sets, which seemed a bit off. It was also weird that the industry info in their deck was basically copied from ChatGPT, especially since they have their own database. I was told not to use outside info, just what they provided. About 4 days after I sent the writing, I got feedback that my 2 x 500 word assessments weren't what they were looking for. The process ended there.

The process involved three main stages: initially, a phone interview with the hiring manager, focusing on general fit. This was followed by in-person interviews with two analysts for a fit assessment and a meeting with the VP. The final stage was a take-home assignment where I had to analyze a provided dataset and write an article within three business days. The entire hiring journey, from the initial LinkedIn outreach by the recruiter to receiving the job offer, took approximately six weeks.

applied online through their website after reading their research for a while. Received an email about scheduling a phone interview. went through my resume, why i wanted to work at CBInsights etc. Was told that they were finishing up first round interviews with the rest of the candidates but that i would hear back about next steps within the next few days. A few days later got a generic rejection letter saying that they decided to go forward with another candidate with a better background/experience. I was obviously disappointed that they didn't even decide to move me forward to the next round to do the short assignment because the firm seemed really great. Asked for feedback about what I could've done better/what I could do to better myself as a candidate and didn't hear anything back.
