& Process

I was first contacted by a recruiter. The first stage was an Excel test, with 16 questions based on provided data, which I had to complete and send back within 30 minutes. If that went well, there were three more rounds of interviews: the first with the head of MO, the second with various managers in the operations team, and the third with HR. In total, I interviewed with about six different people. All three interviews were scheduled within the same week. After that, there was a background check and then an offer.

Started with an HR screening call, which was alright. They asked general stuff and gave me more info about the job. After that, there was a timed Excel test. Once that was done, I went to their office for an in-person interview with the hiring manager. We talked for about an hour, and I thought it was a pretty good discussion, though I might not have had enough experience in a few areas. I let HR know how it went afterward, but then I didn't hear back from them. Pretty unprofessional, honestly, and I'm glad I didn't waste more time on it.

I managed to complete 13 out of 16 questions, and my friend later confirmed my answers seemed good. Unfortunately, HR informed me I failed this Excel test, which I found to be a poor hiring practice, especially for a Trading Assistant role. Assessments like these are rarely used anymore and seem irrelevant unless it's a tech job. Many other hedge funds I know don't even do this. It's a shame companies miss out on good candidates by using such an irrelevant assessment instead of focusing on suitability for the actual role itself. I'd prefer a company that understands a candidate's true worth.

First, there was an online interview with a mix of competency and technical questions. The interviewer was really friendly and made me feel comfortable and more excited about the role. Then, I had an in-person interview with five team members. Everyone was super supportive and nice. It felt more like a chat while they checked my skills and if I fit the role. Make sure you know about the firm, trading, and hedge funds because they will test you! Honestly, it was one of the best interview experiences I've had.
