Sales Associate
I went to get an application, and they directed me to apply online. After submitting my application, I brought it in. The store manager asked me to step aside and asked a few basic questions. A week later, I received a call to come in for an interview. Upon arrival, I was directed to a back area to complete a personality questionnaire and scenarios related to job situations. The store manager, who was quite friendly, allowed me to work through these independently. Afterwards, she sat with me to ask more relevant questions. She didn't discuss the wages I requested. MAKE SURE YOU ASK IF THEY ARE GOING TO PAY YOU WHAT YOU ASKED FOR IN THE INTERVIEW, otherwise they'll assume you don't care apparently. I finished up about 45 minutes later; it was a quick, easy, friendly, and uneventful experience.
- Are you 18 years old?
- Do you have plans for college this year or soon?
- In two years, where do you envision yourself?

The whole thing took like a week. I submitted my application on Tuesday and got a call on Thursday. Then I had my first interview with the assistant manager on Friday, which lasted an hour. We mostly just chatted. You gotta do this 'personality' test, and you're supposed to pick the answers the company wants, not what you actually think. If you pass that, they call you again, and I had to schedule another interview with the district manager for the next Wednesday. That chat with the district manager was quick, only 15 mins, but I had to drive 50 mins to a different Cato store for it. They called me Thursday and offered me the job. It wasn't too bad overall.
- Tell me about yourself.
- What is your main motivation?
- Have you ever seen a shoplifter?
Sales Associate
It was a pretty extensive interview for a part-time sales job. They asked some in-depth questions, then they walked us around the store, and we had to talk about what we knew about the products. Then, they wanted us to try and sell them something. They seemed really desperate for help, so they didn't care too much about our answers. The whole thing took about an hour and a half. They also checked references for sure.
- Can you try to sell me this item?
- Attempt to sell me something.
