& Process

It was pretty simple. Most of the questions I was asked were questions I think anyone would expect. I interviewed virtually and then came again in person. One school asked me just for three references and they’d call one. Another school asked me for references, recommendations, lesson plans, and much more. Good experience overall.

I first applied for an Associate Campus Minister role. I had one Zoom chat with the recruiter and then an in-person meeting with the chaplain in Dec 2023. Both interviews seemed to go well, and I was told I'd hear back soon. However, it took two weeks to get a call from the recruiter saying the chaplain went with someone else. Turns out they didn't hire anyone and the job is still open as of March 2024. It was pretty frustrating. The recruiter then suggested I apply for an administrative assistant role in the diocese. I did, and they moved me straight to an in-person interview with the team in early Jan. They said I'd hear back soon after that, but it's been two months with no word. I emailed for an update but got no response. They ghosted me, which is really unprofessional. So just a heads-up, you might not hear back, or they might mislead you about why you didn't get the job.

The interview process felt misleading. I interviewed for an Administrative Assistant role, but halfway through, the conversation shifted to the school's urgent need for substitute teachers, specifically for art. Despite my lack of art skills, the interviewer was very persistent about me subbing and offered to teach me. She continuously steered the discussion toward the substitute teacher shortage, which wasn't the purpose of my interview. It was surprising how insistent she was. Ideally, they should have separate job postings for these roles instead of trying to recruit candidates for unrelated positions. Additionally, I registered for a mandatory course to work there but haven't received any updates. They should at least inform candidates about their status instead of misleading them into taking a 4-hour course. I'll be canceling the class due to the lack of follow-up. Very misleading experience!

The first conversation was a casual chat over the phone with the pastor to gauge my interest in the role and parish specifics. The second interview took place on Skype, as I would have been relocating, and involved just the pastor and the current business manager. It was a bit odd interviewing with my predecessor.
