Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Casumo.
Senior Software Engineer
The interview process was disappointing. I completed the Spring Boot task using Clean Architecture, but I did not receive any feedback despite requesting it. Please don't apply there, they didn't respect their candidates.
- Could you describe your experience with the Spring Boot task, specifically how you applied Clean Architecture?
Software Engineer
I was first contacted by an external recruiter and after a quick chat, I interviewed with Casumo HR. The HR interview focused on my motivations, what I expected from the role, and my soft skills. Then, I was given a Java code assignment involving building a video rental service with REST interfaces, with a 4-hour estimated time and a one-week deadline. I submitted the project on time. Unfortunately, after a month of silence from the company, despite my follow-ups, I received a rejection note stating I failed the code assessment. The feedback cited issues like lack of full test coverage, incomplete edge case handling, and not using a real database. This felt unreasonable given the supposed 4-hour time limit for the assignment, where expectations seemed to suggest work typically taking 2-3 days. The overall communication was poor, leaving me in the dark for a month, and the assignment's expectations felt unrealistic, almost as if it encouraged cutting corners.
- Tell me about your soft skills.
Software Engineer
I got another offer, so I stopped interviewing with Casumo. The technical test was doable, not too long (maybe a couple of afternoons), and the best part was it wasn't time-limited.
- Could you implement a REST API for a video rental store?
